Kenyan Arts Futurist Organization Kairos Futura Reimagines Citizenship for a Rewilded Future

MILAN, ITALY — From April 7-13, 2025, A space at BASE Milano will transform into The Ministry of Biosymphony, an alternative multinational government agency imagining new forms of nationhood through biomimetic citizenry. This immersive installation, created by Kenyan arts futurist organization Kairos Futura, invites visitors to discover their personal connection to Earth's vital ecosystems.

The Ministry of Biosymphony represents a radical reimagining of how we identify and align ourselves with nature. Visitors will undergo a biomimetic identity test that reveals their innate connection to one of four fundamental biosystems: Ocean, Cloud, Mountain, or Forest. Upon receiving their results, participants are granted ambassador status for their respective biosystem and entrusted with specific missions to protect, observe, and expand their biocitizenship networks.

"The Ministry of Biosymphony invites us to explore how ecological wisdom can transform our relationship with Earth's living systems," explained Kairos Futura's environmental director, Willie Ng'ang'a. "By becoming ambassadors for these elements, we begin to perceive ourselves as integral components of a vast, interconnected planetary network rather than separate from nature."

The installation also features Ministry officials dressed in suits crafted from Kenyan hand-loomed cotton and upcycled safety vests, designed by acclaimed Kenyan designer Mike Mwa. These ministry agents will also be wearing pollution-sensing sunglasses, created by Waridi Designs using recycled furniture wood and incorporating air pollution sensing technology developed by Abdul Rop of Kairos Futura.

Throughout Milan Design Week, newly appointed biosystem ambassadors will receive official documentation, special missions, and an invitation to a secret assembly later in the year in a wild place in their own biosystem. These gatherings will strengthen community bonds while deepening participants' connections to their designated biosystems through biomimetic rituals.

The Ministry of Biosymphony serves as both art installation and functional prototype for reimagining citizenship beyond national boundaries, offering a meditation on belonging in an era of ecological devastation. The project represents a natural evolution of Kairos Futura's ongoing exploration of alternative citizenship models and biomimetic research.

The Ministry of Biosymphony will be open daily at BASE Milano from April 7-13, 2025, during Milan Design Week.
